The
Chelmsford Art Society will present this month Nashua artist,
Marilene Sawaf, who will demonstrate using acrylic wash.
A graduate of Fine Arts Interior Design and Architecture, University
Saint Esprit, Kaslik, Lebanon and the ABC School of Fine Arts,
Paris, France, she has memberships in several art groups especially
the Nashua Area Art Association. She has had many one-woman
exhibits including the Chelmsford Library in Chelmsford, MA and the
Sharon Art Center, Peterborough, NH. Her work has been shown at the
Currier Gallery of Art, Manchester, NH.
Swarf, born in Egypt and raised in Italy and Lebanon, has combined
traditional techniques of the countries where she lived to create
this style. Much of her inspiration for the design in the clothing
and background is inspired by Oriental carpets as well as Medieval
and Renaissance paintings and designs. She creates a dreamlike
illusion, painting women in rich patterned dresses, who make you
wonder who they are and what they are doing.
Her oil landscapes are inspired by her background, her New England
home since 1981 and the Post Impressionist School. Colors and mood
seem more important to her than details and realistic images.
The Chelmsford Art Society will meet on Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at
7:00P.M. at the Old Town Hall, 1 North Road, Chelmsford, MA.
Everyone welcome! For information: call 978 649 9741or 978 251 3971.
